A Modern Parable

Matthew 18:23-35
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. (v. 23)
And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. (v. 24)
But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. (v. 25)
The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. (v. 26)
Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. (v. 27)
But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. (v. 28)
And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. (v. 29)
And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. (v. 30)
So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. (v. 31)
Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: (v. 32)
Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? (v. 33)
And his lord was wroth (angry), and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. (v. 34)
So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. (v. 35)

Vessel of Honor

Vessel Of Honor

A vessel of honor, I'm longing to be.
As clay to the potter, may I be to thee.
You may have to break down resistance at times.
But Lord, don't stop molding and shaping my life.

Shape me dear Father, please make me like you.
Mold me completely, so I can be true.
And if you have to break me, may I understand.
Your still loving and holding my life in your hand.

It would be such disservice, results would be nill.
If clay rejects the potter and seeks its own will.
It could only be cast out to the old Potter's field.
Please don't cast me out Master, put me back on your wheel.

Shape me dear Father, please make me like you.
Mold me completely, so I can be true.
And if you have to break me, may I understand.
Your still loving and holding my life in your hand.

And if you have to break me, may I understand.
Your still loving and holding my life in your hand.

I Forgot!!!

I am so forgetful. The other day when I posted my blog about studying the Bible. I forgot to mention the number one thing you should use when studying the Bible. And the number one thing, is that you should pray that God helps you to understand it. You may not understand it all and sometimes God may not want you to understand something until you are faced with something in your life. But in time God will show you what he wants you to understand and he might reveal something that will give you a blessing when you need one. So always remember to PRAY!!!

Also I wanted to do this yesterday and you guessed it, I forgot. I wanted to post a link to my cousin's blog. She posted a powerful video the other day and I wanted to share it. Here is the link to that blog... Babbling Balderdash.

And then another thing I forgot. I didn't mention in my studying the Bible post, that my cousin Jonathan gave me his Rainbow Study Bible and I had been wanting one. So last year he gave it to me and I really enjoy it. Thanks Jonathan!!!

How to Study the Bible for Yourself

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

I recently finished reading, "How to Study the Bible for Yourself." My mom got this book awhile ago through Crossings Book Club and I hadn't read it, so I started it the other day. To tell the truth, I just decided to read it more for fun. Because I already have my own way that I go about studying the Bible, but I thought that maybe I could get something out of it.

I do like some of the study worksheets that they provide at the end of the book. And LaHaye shares stories of people who became excellent students of the Bible. I probably will do a study of the life of Jesus or a study of Jesus' parables. I also like that he encourages that you should memorize verses from the Bible. I remember one time hearing a preacher say that you didn't need to memorize verses. I don't exactly remember why he said it, I just remember hearing him say you didn't need to do it. Two things that I believe that so-called preacher didn't want those under him to be able to do, first, he didn't want them to spiritually grow and be able to overcome spiritual warfare. Number two, he was probably afraid that they would learn verses that would show them that they should kick him out of the pulpit.

One thing that I didn't agree about is, he gave a list of books that you should use to study the Bible. One reason I didn't like this is sometimes people can't afford them. I was blessed to get two of my study Bibles through my church. I bought a Tim LaHaye Prophecy Study Bible for $10 bucks last year. I received a Bible dictionary from my grandmother's church when I graduated from High School. Christmas 2006, I took the money that my grandfather and my aunt Lori gave me and I bought a 5 volume commentary set. My cousin Marcy installed a Deluxe Bible Collection on my computer and that has different commentaries and it also has the Strong's Concordance. Also one year my aunt Lori gave me a Halley's Bible Handbook (that was one book on LaHaye's list). I got a cheap concordance last year (that was really by accident). But as I said, sometimes people can't get those books. I have heard many times that my grandfather uses a Webster's Dictionary to look up words from the Bible.

I would recommend, that you would get a good Study Bible. If you could get The Deluxe Bible Collection then that would be worth your money. But don't worry, there is this awesome website called E-Sword that you can download onto your computer and then you can download commentaries and books. Two things that I downloaded off E-Sword that I love is the Bishops' Bible 1568 and the Geneva Bible 1587. Most of the Bibles and commentaries are free, but there are some you have to pay for. Here is the link, E-Sword.

Trust

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
This video goes to show that you cannot put your trust in anyone or anything else besides God.
Listen to what the preacher is saying about trust.
