When I Survey The Wondrous Cross (Day 2)

If we think about how terrible the cross is, then someone might ask, why is it so wonderful?? Well it is wonderful because Jesus died on the cross to save us from sin (if we pray to God and ask him to forgive us of are sins). Here is some information about the crucifixion.

Crucifixion was one of the most cruel and barbarous forms of death known to man. First they would tie or nail, possibly both (we know that Jesus was nailed to the cross). Here are some other things about the crucifixion. Abnormal position of the body. The slightest movement would be accompanied with additional torture. The traumatic fever induced by hanging for such a long period of time. When a person is suspended by his hands, the blood sinks rapidly into the lower extremities of the body. Within six to twelve minutes blood pressure has dropped to 50 percent, while the rate of the pulse has doubled. The heart is deprived of blood and fainting follows.

Sometimes a fire was built beneath the cross that its fumes might suffocate the sufferer. Victims of crucifixion did not generally die for two or three days. Death was hastened by the breaking of the legs.

Other causes of death were, physical shock, dehydration, exhaustion or heart failure.

This is a quote that I heard Brian Baer say while he was preaching one night.
"He hung naked between Heaven and earth, to give us a robe of pure white."

Isn't it truly wonderful to think that Jesus didn't have to die on the cross for us, but he did. And not only did he die for us, but he arose from the dead on the third day. PRAISE THE LORD!!!

We're not worthy of His mercy and grace...but I'm so glad He thought otherwise!

That's always the part of Passion that gets to me the most...seeing them brutally beat Christ like a wild animal.
