Kid Humor...

Kids are so funny. Whether it is something they do or say. I was just thinking about my adopted niece Olivia, for 5 years old she is very smart and most of the time I think, is she really only 5 years old. She is also funny. One night I was babysitting her and we were playing Wii (which she usually beats me at), I some how pulled off a win. Olivia's Wii character also known as a Mii became all sad looking. Olivia then points at the screen and says, "look what you done to this 5 year old kid!" LOL!!!! Then she beat me at a game, so I turned the tables on her and said, "look what you done to this 26 year old kid!"

I was also thinking how funny I was as a little kid. When I was younger I knew everyone had a first name, middle name, and last name. I also knew that some people don't always have middle names, like my uncles Glen and Steve. So every time I would hear people say Jesus Christ, I would think that Jesus didn't have a middle name and his first name was Jesus and his last name was Christ. Also his parents' names were Joseph and Mary Christ. LOL!!! I know I was crazy. Anyways the reason why I was posting on kids is I was humming a children's song yesterday. Here is the video to one of my favorite songs when I was a kid.

Trust...

I posted this video on Myspace one day, but then it hit me that this could be related to the Bible.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Clearly the guy in this commercial is crazy for trusting a little gecko to catch him. Just think though if you are ever going to fall, don't you want to fall into the big arms of an awesome God. That is what I want to do and I know God will catch me. The devil he tries so hard to keep me from trusting God. Just today I was telling my mom how hard I've prayed for some people but I'm starting to think God isn't doing anything. This is what the devil wants me to do, stop trusting God. I know even if I may not see it now God is working and even if he may not answer the prayers the way I want him to, I know he still wants me to say I will trust him and serve him no matter what.

Regarding The Dog

I love how kids think about everyone. One time when my niece was at youth camp we went to the evening service. Now the camp was for ages 9-12. The guy in charge (Scott Brafford) went around to everyone and ask for each person to give one prayer request. Well one child said pray for my dog and some adults laughed. I really loved how this was handled. Scott said don't laugh he didn't want the child's feelings hurt, then he went on to quote Proverbs 12:10...

"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast..." Proverbs 12:10

I know this is probably more directed to a working animal, but sometimes I think my dog is a beast. LOL!!! I love him though. It is so amazing how dogs can sense when you are down and they will do something funny to cheer you up. My cousin Marcy helped me get my digital camera hooked up to my computer and we downloaded all my photos of my dog Gizmo and I thought I would share some with all of you out there.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!! (and I'm back)

Clearly I'm not Catholic but of Irish descent. So when I celebrate St. Patrick's Day it is not how everyone else celebrates it. I enjoy the music, if you think about it, Irish music comes close to bluegrass music (which is one of my favorites). Also I enjoy Irish Step Dancing, I wish I could do it though. I would say I love the food, but we eat potatoes all the time, lol and the last time we had corn beef my mom got really sick. Not from the corn beef though, but she didn't enjoy the smell and we haven't had it since.

I will say that I don't agree with how the day is transformed into one big party. When I think of Patrick, I think he should be honored better then what people honor him with. Really I think God should get all the honor. Here is how I have been looking at Patrick lately. I see someone that is an example of love, because he was captured by some Irish men and held as a servant for six years. He escaped but he felt the calling to go back and help the people.

Wow, haven't I been smacked upside the head. Isn't that what Jesus said though in Luke 6:35, "But love ye your enemies..." It is nice to have people though that truly loves their enemies, because as Christians we are suppose to do this. I have a friend whose sister was murdered and the judge gave them the right to say something to the young man who had done it. He said he sat there arguing with God, there was other things he wanted to say to this guy that killed his sister, but he stood up and said "Jesus loves you and so do I."

"He that loveth not knoweth not God: for God is love." 1 John 4:8

Here is a video of a song called St. Patrick's Breastplate. I really like the part that says Christ be with me, Christ be within me. Christ behind me, Christ before me. Christ beside me, Christ to win me. Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me. I want Christ to be all around me.

Book Review: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Last year, while my mom and I were watching a movie on The Hallmark Channel she saw a advertisem-ent for a movie that was going to be in the theaters. For some reason I was not in the room and when I came back she said there was a movie that I would probably enjoy. She told me the name of the movie and the next day I watched the trailer for the movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

Then my cousin (Marcy) told me that The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was based off a book. I looked it up and read about the guy who wrote the book and what the book was about. Of course the book is about Holocaust. It is a fictional account about a German boy (Bruno) and his family who moves to Auschwitz (known in the book as Out-With, that is how the children pronounce it). Bruno likes to explore and one day he goes to the fence that separates his home from the place next to his home and he starts walking. He walks along way and when he decides to give up he finally sees something in the distant. So he continues to walk and comes along to find a boy (Shmuel) on the other side of the fence wearing striped pajamas. Bruno and Shmuel become friends even though they are different. Bruno visits Shumuel everyday and brings him food.

After I read about the book on Wikipedia (I will advise not to read to much on Wikipedia because they give the ending away), I decided I wanted to purchase the book for myself. Thanks to my cousin Kalee who gave me a gift card, so I could buy this book. This book is a great book. It is a good read for anyone over the age of 9 (if the parent or parents explains what this time in history was about). I view this book being wrote for children but it could be for anyone to read. I love how the author wrote the book. The view of this book is through the eyes of a child and it was very interesting to see how children might have saw things during those times.

I sent my cousin Marcy some questions about the book and ask her if she would answer them. I wanted to share this with everyone out there. Hope you enjoy this book review/interview with my cousin Marcy.

1. On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest), how would you rate this book? 4

2. What age do you think this book is aimed at? I think it is aimed at adolescents, but can be enjoyed by many ages.

3. Do you think this book is good for any age? No...I wouldn't let young children read it, because some of it is a bit disturbing. I would recommend it for those 9 years (with an explanation from their parents) or older.

4. Do you think this book could be a good read for students studying the Holocaust? Yes

5. Who was your favorite character? Bruno

6. Do you relate with any of the characters? Not completely...but they do evoke strong emotions in the reader.

7. What did you think about Bruno's and Shmuel's relationship? It was the most wonderful, and at times, the saddest thing about the book. It's a perfect illustration of having a pure, childlike heart. The world would be a much better place if we all did.

8. What was your favorite part of this book? The overall relationship between Bruno and Shmuel.

9. On March the 10th the DVD of "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" will be released. Are you looking forward to watching the movie? Yes

10. Do you have any more comments you would like to share about the book? Just that it's nice to see such quality novels about important times in history being made. John Boyne deals with a sensitive subject with the utmost grace and dignity. Great book!

Behold, All Things Are Become New

I was thinking the other day about this girl who I went to school with. Now for people who don't know me let me give you a little history about myself. I did not go to a Christian school, but a public school. There was only one Christian school but it would have been a drive to get there. Even if I didn't go to a Christian school I still was surrounded by good teachers. Teachers who would quote verses from the Bible and tell Bible stories to us. I was raised in the country and I wouldn't have it any other way. My mom would have loved for me to go to a Christian school, so I could have had classes that revolved around the Bible, because I love the Bible so much.

So anyways back to this story about the girl from my school. I had never met her until I went to junior high (that's when the four elementary schools in the county would go together). She would have her good days and she would have her bad days. Sometimes she was really nice and other times she was really mean! Something changed when we went on to high school though. She asked Jesus to come into her heart and she had really CHANGED! She was so nice and in the mornings some of the kids would go to the library to have prayer before school started. If it wasn't me leading the prayer she would lead the prayer. She was really a testament to the verse in 2 Corinthians 5:17!!!

Note: My senior year of high school there was a Christian school that opened up not to far from my house, but it was my senior year and I decided I needed to finish my schooling with my friends.

Rainbows

Kristi over at Thimble Thoughts was talking about that rainbow today in her blog. A couple of weeks ago when we had a bad storm, after the storm was over there appeared a rainbow in the sky. Not only one rainbow but two! Every time I see a rainbow, I'm in awe of the beauty of it. Also I always think of the promise God made never to destroy the whole world with water again as in Noah's day.

Genesis 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

Genesis 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

Genesis 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

The photos are from my friend. These were taken after the storm. In the first one if you look to the left of the rainbow, you can see a rainbow that is not very bright. If I hadn't been so crazy I would had a better photo to share with you that I had taken with my phone, but I accidentally discarded the photo. The photo I had taken you could see both rainbows really well.
